What is Resin bound?

What is Resin Bound? A Resin bound surface is a smooth, permeable surface that meets SuDs regulations. This type of surfacing, also known as 'trowelled' paving, is created from a mixture of aggregates coated with either a UV-stable or standard polyurethane resin. It is hand-laid and does include loose chippings.

Why choose a Resin bound surface?

A Resin Bound system is aesthetically and physically superior than other products.The gravel is mixed together with the resin. This mixture is then hand trowelled on to the base surface to leave a smooth flat finish with no loose gravel.The resulting surface is fully permeable, allowing surface water to rapidly drain away reducing the risk of flooding. This is compliant with Sustainable Urban Drainage System "SUDS" requirements and therefore requires no planning permission.

SUDS

SuDS are designed to manage water as close to the source as possible and tackle excess water run off to reduce pressure on current council drainage systems. Water flows through a permeable surface in to a permeable fill or sub-base where it can be stored, conveyed or allowed to infiltrate the lower strata and re-charge the ground water where there is no risk to its water quality.

Resin bound surfacing is one of the primary SuDS solutions and offers a fully porous solution. It therefore sits under the ‘eco paving’ and ‘sustainable drainage system’ threshold. It is an eco friendly option, which is highly encouraged by The Environmental Agency in order to combat the risk of flooding in many areas.
